Do nothing to mar its grandeur
for the ages have been
at work upon it
and man cannot improve it.
Keep it for your children,
your children's children,
and all who come after you.

The Grand Canyon

Every time we visit the Grand Canyon
it looks different.
The colors change with the angle of the sun
ranging from pink and purple to red, brown and gold.
The colors are even more intense at sunrise or sunset.
We have never been at the Canyon during a lightning storm, but I have seen pictures.
It looks AWESOME!!!

Some people take the "easy" way down into the canyon.
I think the end of the line would be very dusty.
Reservations need to be made at least 1 year in advance.
But it looks like it would be fun!!
If we were to do this,
I would like to spend 2 or 3 days at the bottom
to explore and take pictures.
Another fun trip would be to go rafting
on the Colorado River.

Last April we visited the Canyon. We stayed in Williams,AZ.
When we got up on the morning of our planned trip- it was snowing.
The closer we got to the canyon- the harder it snowed.
By the time we got to the Canyon there were 2 inches of snow on the ground.

The Canyon looked even more beautiful with snow covering the ground
and part way down into the Canyon.
It was much more quiet than normally- as people spoke in hushed tones.
My favorite was a couple who had not listened to the weather forecast.
The lady was wearing a sleeveless dress and sandals on bare feet.
She was freezing and kept saying "This is Arizona- it's not supposed to snow here!"
I was thankful to Don who had talked me into wearing hiking boots-
as I normally wear my "Birkies" year round.

We had a wonderful time going from one Lookout Point to the next one.
We disturbed some deer along the way- and we also saw a gray wolf.

I was so surprised, I reacted too slow and was not able to take a photo.
Unfortunately- by the time we made it to the rim-trail the snow was almost all gone.

Oh wait-
there is just one more thing!

No visit to the Canyon would be complete without at least one picture of a squirrel.
This little guy was either very hungry(not likely),or very tame.

We were having a snack on the Canyon Rim and he almost jumped in my lap
because he wanted his fair share. He finally snatched
my napkin and ran off triumphantly.

The crow, well- all I'll tell you is this:
When you're camping at the Canyon don't leave food or trash sitting out.
Put everything into containers- otherwise you'll be cleaning up for a L-O-N-G time!

Hope to see you at the Canyon sometime.
